On one of the last days of Cornell, I went to the local art museum. I was impressed to see sculptures from Picasso and Giocometti, as well as an Ansel Adams gelatin print that I have never seen before (Cemetery Statue of Oil Derricks, Long Beach, 1939).

Some folks I have seen for the first time …

Milton Avery, 'City' -- Oil on canvas, 1928.

Birger Sandzen, 'Moonrise, Manitou, Colorado' -- Oil on panel, 1922-23.

John Constable, 'Netley Abbey' - Oil on canvas, 1833.
