California Wilderness Coast, John Fielder (1986)

I read through this book during my last trip to Southern California, a 25 year old book. All of the shots on two inch or slide film with many hours in the dark room, tentative and challenging. Never knowing what you had, long before photoshop existed. When “cut and paste” was a literal effort.

The longing for experimenting within the dark room of chemicals, light, movement and time.

Most of the shots are from Sonoma, Big Sun, Humboldt County, Big Sur. All from Santa Barbara and points northern. Maybe 50 photos or so, indian paintbrush, lupine, wild mustard. My favorites were the driftwood shots at Point Delgada.

The photos were good. The accompanying poetry not so much, but exactly for the targeted audience.
